Port
St Joe Florida rolls off the tongue. This picture was sketched in
a travel journal made March 1979 when I bicycled from Tampa to New
Orleans. Sick of winter in Chicago, I quit my job and caught a plane to Tampa next day with bike and camping gear. I'd never been south of Indiana. so Florida was all new. The plan was to camp the whole way. The rain didn't stop me from riding, since I rode in northern blizzards for years, but high headwinds and damp clothes forced me to sit in a motel one Wednesday. I drew this picture to pass the afternoon. Flush with challenge of pedaling a bike loaded with gear on narrow 2-lane roads for 7 days, I didn't draw more pictures during that trip. |
