Oil pastel on paper | Arthritis affects art In the background is a jar of peanut butter, the toe of my tennis shoe, a jar of art gel and some art supplies |
Here are two versions of Twist, plus a photo of my hand. This depicts the feeling of arthritis in my hands. Not only is there limitation and pain, but my hands are visible socially. The title comes from a story. I was a house painter and had a few guys working with me. One day, I bought a bag of potato chips to share at lunch. I was eating chips but nobody would take one, so I asked why. A particularly rude fella with one eye quipped that 'nobody wants to get the twist.' I laughed at the frank explanation and told him he'd better sleep with one eye open. That got one chuckle but nobody ate a chip. More for me. |
